Giveaway: Sumire’s Shawl

A long overdue giveaway, but here it is!

To enter: Post a comment, preferably answering the question (see below).

The question: What do you love about September?

I love that September heralds in fall.  I love fall fashions (cables and stuff) even though I probably won’t knit/wear it.  There is no real fall in Southern California, I just want to pretend there is.  And it’s the month before October.  Oh, dang, it’s almost October!  Now that is scary!

The prizes: Random generator picks one person, and I pick the best comment/story.  So two winners.

The giveaway will be open until Friday, September 16th, 2011, 10PM PDT.  Any comments after that will not be counted.

I love that things are finally cooling down after the summer. I love that AWANA is starting up for the year, which means that monthly get-togethers with my peers at church are also starting up! I *dislike* that fall heralds winter, because winter makes me want to hibernate. 😉 I do love the colours of the leaves in fall, though, and I LOVE the greening of spring, so it’s a reasonable tradeoff! ;P

I love that warmer and cozier fashions are showing up in the knitting world, and I LOVE that a new Knitty is on its way!

I love the fallen leaves, and watching the birds begin to flock already. Plus I get to dig out the cowls and gloves I made last year, or maybe make some new ones 🙂

When I was younger, I liked that school started, because by the end of summer I was bored. Once upon a time the smell of burning leaves (raked up from lawns across the city) was fantastic. The cooling off from hot temperatures was good, too, especially because I like to knit and crochet. But my favorite part of September is my birthday. I don’t care how old I appear on the outside, I’m still 7 inside. It’s a beautiful shawl and I’d love to win it.

I also like that it’s the month before October! My husband and I got married in October, so I’m a little biased.

If I REALLY have to pick something, I like that the humidity of summer starts to die down and there’s a slight chill in the air — nothing too terrible, but enough to make you want to get your handmade goodies out and snuggle them.

September is for me about color and smell. This is the start of autumn even though sometimes it is just the beginning of what will manifest in October. That humid smell of the woods and the bright yellows and oranges that make me feel good about getting from one season to the other.

The rectangles in the Sumire Shawl reminds me of those leafs falling from the branches. Yep: I am ready for autumn!

  6. Sandra says:

September brings perfect crafting weather, the searing heat has abated and wool can be handled in comfort. September heralds the start of seasonal gift making. It is the time of year I am most motivated to craft and “startitis” begins!

  7. Diane says:

I love September because it is finally cool enough to pull out larger projects on which to work.

I love fall in general! September to me means that the kids are back to school! This gives them more sports, more schedule and more fun! Living in New England, it brings the great weather and colors! Throw in all of the Halloween decorations (and candy) that come out. Finally, add to all of that, the fact that it means it is almost my birthday! This is the best!

  9. Marce Hall says:

I love September for the cooler temperatures, so that I can actually spend time outdoors. I also love starting the winter projects, starting to think about Christmas presents!

  10. Alison says:

September means being forced to wake up early in the newly chill mornings. I love that socks, tea, and corduroy all reappear and help us create a pocket of warmth from which to enjoy wind and rain. Dallas (like Southern California) doesn’t really have a fall. You can still buy pumpkins and bake and knit, though! It can be nice to only have to wear one sweater at a time…

  11. Renee says:

I love that September brings cooler weather! Yesterday was day 62 of 100 degree weather this summer, and today is expected to be day 63 (in Oklahoma City), but we’ve had nice weather for the last week or so, and tomorrow is expected to be cooler with possibly rain!

  12. ~Julie says:

September is great because I get to wear a jacket in the morning and evenings, but short sleeves during the day. I love to see the first blush of red on the maple leaves and hot drinks start to appeal to me again. Apple picking!

  13. Yuki says:

Though I live in California now, I grew up in Toronto, Ontario so September always heralded the changing colors of the maple leaves – one of nature’s most awe inspiring sights. It also meant going back to school, and starting a new year fresh and alert from a hot summer off. So, to me, September is always a good time to re-invent myself and makes me feel invigorated, like I can take on any new challenge, plus wear turtlenecks and nicer jackets ;o)

WOW!! I just saw this and realized I am currently working on your budding shawl. I love it. September. San Francisco circa mid 1980’s. 1st week of school and indian summer would hit for a week or 2, over 80 degress!!!. We’d sit outside with our uniform skirts pulled up to get some sunshine on our legs. A rare occurance in San Francisco. Yvette (QTWIQ)
