30 Day Photography Challenge: Day 10 – Childhood Memory

The Challenge

IMG_1681When I think of childhood memories, I think of memories before my move.  My fourth grade teacher took a million pictures of all of us in the class.  I actually was not there for the whole year, otherwise I probably would have ended up with two binders instead of one.  I’m not sure how old I am in that picture, but I was dressed in my Sunday best, in front of our house.  That dress was awesome.

And the knitting needle, I lost its partner a long time ago, but it’s still precious to me.  I actually taught myself how to knit in 5th grade.  I bought a kit that needle was a part of while we were driving up to San Francisco/Sacramento and figured out how to knit garter stitch.  I remember the yarn, a pink acrylic.  But I could not figure out how to purl, and I didn’t know that knitting both sides would create garter stitch, so I thought I was doing it all wrong.  Needless to say, I gave up and went back to crocheting chains (that’s all I could do before I taught myself other stitches from books).  I still remember sitting in the bathroom at home, trying to figure out how to wrap the yarn like the paper said to purl the stupid stitch.

These are really fun memories! I taught myself to knit from a book, too, so it was fun to learn you did the same thing!
