Chain Knitting Tutorial

I couldn’t resist making a tutorial of how to chain knit after seeing a thread on Ravelry, but then I realized I actually didn’t quite know how to do it, so this is my version of how to do it. It might be right, it might be wrong, but it looks right…

I started off with 10 sts.

(Knit side) I knitted to 1 st before I wanted the chains, then knit and purled in the same stitch.

*Insert left needle behind the right needle, taking care to have the yarn in front of work:

Purl the stitch:

1 chain made. Repeat from * to create desired amount of chains. I made two in this row. Now you need to bind off the extra stitch you made, so slip the next stitch to the right needle:

Insert left needle in second to the left stitch and pull the stitch over.

(Not pictured) Slip stitch back to left needle, knit the rest of the row.

(Purl side) The same as the knit side, except you will purl to 1 st before gap, purl and knit in next stitch.

(Bind off) Bind off to stitch before gap. Work chain to desired length.

Knit the next stitch, then continue binding off as usual.

Ta-da!
